Josu de la Fuente is a Consultant Haematologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Professor of Practice (Cellular and Gene Therapies) of Imperial College London. He was appointed Director of the Paediatric Blood & Marrow Transplant Programme in 2006, specialising in transplantation for haemoglobinopathies and bone marrow failure, and being innovative in the use of alternative donors. He is the vice-chair of Paediatric Diseases Working Party of EBMT, a member of the steering committee of the BMT CTN 1507 trial Co-Director of the Vanderbilt Global Consortium for a Cure. He is an investigator and in the steering committee of a several gene therapy trials in sickle cell disease and thalassaemia.

After an initial period in adult medicine, Professor de la Fuente completed his general training in paediatrics in different hospitals in London and following membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, he trained in haematology at Imperial College and Great Ormond Street Hospital achieving membership of the Royal College of Pathologists. During this time, he developed an interest in red cell disorders, bone marrow failure and transplantation, including a period of basic research in human developmental haemopoiesis as an MRC Clinical Research Fellow leading to a PhD. He has also developed a unique clinical and research programme for Diamond Blackfan anaemia patients.

My main interests include novel therapies, in particular targeted, cellular and gene therapies and ensuring the needs of rare anaemias and bone marrow failure are represented, with particular attention to Diamond Blackfan anaemia.

As a pediatric oncologist, he is specialized in treating pediatric leukemia and lymphoma, emphasizing the use of cellular therapy. Cellular therapy involves modifying a patient’s own cells or cells from a donor to fight disease. He was inspired by the strength and bravery of children going through cancer diagnosis and treatment.

I am a Professor in Paediatric Immunology and Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Honorary Consultant for the Northern Supra-Regional Bone Marrow Transplant Unit for SCID and related disorders, at the Great North Children’s Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, clinically qualified and active. I spent a year of post-doctoral studies working with Anne Durandy and Alain Fischer in the Necker Hospital in Paris and was involved in the discovery of Cytidine Deaminase one of the first genes to be discovered involved in class switch recombination and somatic hypermutation.

I have been a consultant in Newcastle for 19 years. I have pioneered Paediatric immunology research at the university. My research interests include immunoreconstitution following haematopoietic stem cell transplant for primary immunodeficiency, long-term outcomes of transplantation for primary immunodeficiency (and in particular, Chronic Granulomatous Disease and Severe Combined Immunodeficiency), DNA repair disorders and their appropriate treatment and Di George Syndrome. More recently, I have adapted new methods of T cell depletion for patients with primary immunodeficiency, and established extracorporeal photopheresis for the treatment of children with graft versus host disease. I have discovered important mechanistic insights relating to the action of extracorporeal photopheresis. I am exploring the use of defibrotide for treatment of non-VOD endothelial cell activation disorders post-HSCT.

Dr. Hanna is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-Oncology. He earned his medical degree from Aleppo University Faculty of Medicine in Aleppo, Syria. I am a Professor of Paediatric Immunology and Gene Therapy at UCL Great Ormond Street Hospital Institute of Child Health in London and lead the clinical stem cell gene therapy programme at Great Ormond Street Hospital. I’m a clinical academic leading an expanding number of gene therapy clinical trials for patients with immune deficiencies, haematological and metabolic disorders. My research is focused on developing novel therapies for immune system disorders using innovative gene modification techniques. I have extensive experience of translating, leading, and delivering first in human clinical trials and the commercialisation pathway. He set up the first Treosulfan PK clinical trial in the UK. He is the principal investigator of a study on the use of Nomacopan in transplant-associated microangiopathy.

He led on large studies within the IEWP and Eurocord framework, on the outcome of stem cell transplant in chronic granulomatous disease and osteopetrosis. He led a large study on the outcome of stem cell transplant in cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy and he led the ALD-104 gene therapy study in the UK.

John M. Cunningham, MD, is an internationally known expert in the treatment and research of childhood cancers and blood diseases. He has particular expertise in treating leukemia, lymphoma, immunodeficiencies, sickle cell disease and thalassemia. He is a recognized leader in the field of pediatric stem cell transplantation and has developed novel uses for this life-saving treatment.

An active researcher, Dr. Cunningham is studying the biology and therapy of hemoglobinopathies, hematopoiesis and the leukemia stem cell, transcriptional mechanisms operative during the development of vertebrate organisms, and the development of clinical trials for the treatment of leukemia and genetic diseases. James LaBelle, MD, PhD, provides care for children of all ages with cancer and blood diseases, including leukemia and lymphoma. In particular, Dr. LaBelle specializes in stem cell transplantation, replacing a patient's diseased bone marrow and immune system with healthy cells.

Dr. LaBelle's laboratory research focuses on understanding at a molecular level the reason why some pediatric cancers are resistant to therapy. He currently serves as the primary investigator on a study examining a critical network of proteins that regulate whether a malignant cell lives or dies. The normal signaling between these proteins often is disturbed in cancerous cells. Through this research, he hopes to identify novel cell death regulatory mechanisms in resistant hematopoietic malignancies and design effective strategies to overcome them. Dr. LaBelle's research is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Rodaina Abu Joub is a Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Clinical Nurse Specialist and Program Team Leader at the Division of Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy, Nursing Services, KASCH in Riyadh. In her role as team leader, Miss Rodaina is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the pediatric stem cell transplant and cellular therapy program, ensuring the implementation of the quality management plan, and effectively organizing the team based on the core pillars of nursing practice. More recently, her post-doctoral studies at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health involved translation of CD19CAR T cells as therapy for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) from bench to bedside. Her research interests are cellular immunotherapy for haematological malignancies and T cell immunobiology.

She has clinical interests in paediatric malignant haematology, and leads on cell therapy and research within the department. She is a co-investigator on two CAR T cell studies for ALL, and actively involved in implementing new studies in order to improve outcomes for children with high risk or relapsed haematological malignancies.
